Welcome

The San Fernando Meditation Group had its humble beginnings at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Sookhai in La Romain, in the southern part of Trinidad. At that time, Mr. Al Bhagwat Singh wrote to the Mother Center to request permission to start a Meditation Group. Permission was granted, and in the last quarter of 1962, the San Fernando Meditation Group was inaugurated. Through the instrumentality of one of its members, Dr. Harry Collymore, an orthopaedic physician, the group held regular meetings at the San Fernando Rehabilitation Center (now known as the NCPD-National Center for Persons with Disabilities). This Center was the first of its kind in Trinidad and Tobago for the training of persons with disabilities, and opened in 1964. For the next 16 years, the group held regular Sunday Readings' services, Sunday evening meditation services, Thursday evening services, commemoration services and hosted monastic visits from the International headquarters.

As loss of land due to landslides continued to threaten the foundation of the Rehabilitation Center building in the late 1970s, the group was forced to seek other accommodation. For the next few years they met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Grant in Pointe a Pierre, Trinidad. They later moved to Pamela's Mall in Gopaul Lands, and then to St Margaret's Mall, at the junction of St Margaret's Road and the Southern Main Road in Claxton Bay, where they stayed there for over twenty years. In October 2021, they moved to Veneris Plaza, Couva, where they reside currently. Even though Self-Realization Fellowship in Trinidad and Tobago had its inception in Cap-de-Ville, Point Fortin, today the San Fernando Meditation Group is the currently existing group in Trinidad and Tobago.

The group consists of local members and friends who uphold the Aims and Ideals of SRF. Devotees meet regularly to meditate and are committed to spreading the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda throughout Trinidad and Tobago. The group is a branch of the Self-Realization Fellowship which has its headquarters in Los Angeles, California.
